No Longer Chores

“Farming is truly a family affair. I don’t know anyone who wakes up one morning and decides to become a farmer. It doesn’t work like that. The love of early mornings, muddy fields and oily machinery is not something you learn, it’s something you inherit.

Growing up my friends always pitied me for all the chores I had to do. Funnily enough I pitied them right back. Their biggest adventure was a basketball net at the end of their driveway. Whereas I got to drive my dad’s tractor, raise animals and jump off straw bales. I always figured the chores were a pretty good trade off.

Now the farm that was once my childhood playground has become my business and livelihood. My dad never retired, farmers don’t retire. We just no longer call what I do chores.”
