Here at Lambton Mutual, we’ve been wondering why there has been so much interest in CSR recently.
In case you haven’t heard, CSR is an acronym that stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. It refers to business practices that promote sustainability by contributing economic, social and environmental benefits to society. CSR is common among big companies like Microsoft, Google and Disney which have been recognized for leading the way in this arena.
But for those of us in mutual insurance, CSR is old news. In fact, it was one of the principles on which we were founded over 140 years ago! The early directors of Lambton Mutual recognized that the community should benefit from any surplus or profit from doing business. Indeed, we continue to focus on keeping jobs and profits in our community to this day. That’s why we donate thousands of dollars each year to programs in Lambton County and surrounding areas.
In 2016, Lambton Mutual has donated $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton in support of their new home that will be built in Watford, Ontario. We’ve also donated $1,000 to the Western Ontario Steam Threshers which held a show in August in Forest, Ontario. Previously, our contributions have included: $25,000 in sponsorship of the Lambton County Fire Safety Trailer, $10,000 to the Bluewater Health Foundation MRI Campaign, $10,000 to the Warwick Community Centre Project, $25,000 to the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Breast Assessment Program, $10,000 to the Lambton Children’s Safety Village and $25,000 to Pathways Health Centre for Children. We’ve also established our own scholarship program, the Lambton Mutual Scholarship, which will annually award two graduating high-school students who will be pursuing post-secondary studies a total of $1000 each for their efforts in community volunteering. Most importantly, our donations are always made with the best interests of our policyholders in mind.
So you see, for us CSR isn’t a trendy new way to retain customers. It’s woven into the fabric of our being – it’s the spirit of coming together for the greater good. We’re community-oriented at our core.
