This summer seems to be in a constant state of stop-start. However, a summer packed full of fun events and activities is in full swing across Sarnia, Lambton. Events that should not only get locals excited, but be more than enough reason for visitors to pull off the highway and come spend time in beautiful Blue Water country.
Kicking off this weekend is the St. Clair River Run. Many will not realize that this 10K, 5k and kids run is in its 6th year. Adults and kids from all over the Sarnia-Lambton flock for a fun day of live music and healthy exercise along the beautiful St. Clair River trail. This really is one of the county’s hidden gems.
However, if running along the river is not your idea of a good time this weekend you have two great alternatives. You can head over to the village of Oil Springs to celebrate their 150th anniversary. There will be a parade, live bands, music and evening fireworks. Or take a visit to the Twin Bridges for “Bridge Bash”, where you can enjoy live entertainment, food and of course the Mackinac races. There will also be the unique opportunity to watch the FireFit Challenge at the Waterfront Park. FireFit is based on firefighter tasks and is one of the most intense physical competitions in Canada, where participants climb, pull, hammer, spray and drag their way to victory.
The fun does not stop in August. Sarnia ‘First Friday’s’ always come alive in the summer months with more live music and a great downtown vibe. Sweet corn will be boiling and butter melting in Warwick on the weekend of August 6th-9th at the annual Watford Cornfest. As many as 4,000 people can come through the park during the weekend for Cornfest’s special events, food, refreshments and ball games.
The power boat races roll into Sarnia on August 7th and to top it all off the Festival of Good Things, a festival of good food, beer and music rounds out the summer on Labour Day weekend at the Sarnia Bay Marina.
So get your calendars out! Have some fun in the sun.
