Can’t Miss Motorcycle Trips in Ontario

With no shortage of picturesque landscapes and tens of thousands of kilometers of roads to keep you busy, Ontario is the perfect province for motorcycle trips this Fall. Whether you want to make an epic multi-day journey or a “short and sweet” day excursion, Ontario has it all.

Motorcycle trips are slightly different from your average road trip by car.  Endless kilometers on a 400 series highway are long, tedious and boring without companions to play car games with. Bumpy road conditions due to winter frost and thaw, construction or debris can turn from a minor inconvenience to treacherous conditions, for an unsuspecting motorcyclist. The following list aims to combine the best views, attractions and road conditions so you can make the most of your getaway!

  1. Grand Algoma Loop

Following Trans Canada highway along the shoreline of Lake Superior between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie, the Grand Algoma Loop provides spectacular landscapes and wonderful places to explore. Best tackled over 2-3 days this route will show you beautiful forests, rocky outcrops, picturesque lakeshore views, waterfalls and of course the giant geese of Wawa.

  1. Prince Edward County

Home to vineyards, sand dunes and stunning shorelines there is really no reason not to take a trip through Prince Edward County. Presqu’ile and Sand Banks provincial parks provide stunning areas to do some camping or enjoy beautiful day use beaches and picnic areas. If you love art, be sure to follow the Art Trail through the County.  But if you’re a foodie, be sure to follow the Taste Trail!

  1. Muskoka

Just a couple hours north of Toronto this popular cottage country region has a reputation for a reason. Following Muskoka Country Road 13 you’ll be greeted with forests, lakes, wetlands, bad lands, granite outcrops and more to make for a stunning ride.

  1. Ontario’s Highlands

Not to be outdone by the great lakes and Muskoka area Ontario’s Highlands is a somewhat lesser known but equally stunning area to ride through. This area runs roughly between Ottawa, Kingston, Peterborough and Algonquin Park. You can choose from multiple shorter trips like the Rideau Ridge or Calabogie or you can go all in for a 1000km multi day trip around the region. With plenty of area history, small towns and delicious food to accompany the impressive views, you will not be left disappointed.

  1. Georgian Bay Coastal Route

As the name suggests this route follows along the coast of Georgian Bay, winding through many small towns, the gorgeous waters of Bruce Peninsula and through Manitoulin Island.  You have the opportunity to explore a rich cultural heritage and enjoy a ferry ride. What more could you possibly ask for?

While this list is not exhaustive of all the stunning motorcycle trips in Ontario, it should provide a good resource to get some serious planning and daydreaming started!
