Scenes of Lambton Photo Contest – Winner
Congratulations to Darren Miller, the winner of our Facebook photo contest – Scenes of Lambton County. “Heaven Hill” is featured on the cover of this year’s newsletter. In addition, Darren won an iPad Air for his remarkable entry. Lambton Mutual would like to thank all those who submitted photos – we live in a beautiful area of Ontario and you captured it magnificently! Darren was born in Chatham, Ontario and has resided in Florence for the past 28 years; he loves the area, especially the Sydenham River. Now about that piano! This photo definitely caused a bit of a stir in our Facebook contest. It is a breathtaking picture, but then begs the question: How did a piano make it into the field and why?
The piano first came to Janice and Paul Lebouef via hay wagons that they had loaned out to be used to move items for a local auction sale. The piano did not sell and was just left on the hay wagons upon return. Janice, at this point, got the idea to place the piano in the field; she thought it would be beautiful and cause quite a bit of conversation in the small community. Paul thought otherwise, and quickly returned the piano to its rightful owners – Lawrene and Harry Denkers.
After a few years, Lawrene and Harry Denkers contacted their neighbour, Janice Lebouf, to advise her that the piano (now 101 years of age) was beyond repair with a cracked soundboard and shrunken peg, to see if she wanted the piano for the field. Of course she said yes! The piano was delivered to the Lebouef farm on Easter weekend 2014 and Janice used the loader tractor to set the piano in the pasture, where it still sits today.
